Bespoke signage, made rather than ordered

Most of what Reading businesses ask us for is bespoke signage rather than an off the shelf product. Bespoke means the sign is drawn for your premises and your brand, then built to that drawing, rather than picked from a catalogue of standard sizes.

In practice that means we survey the actual building, lay the proposed signage over photographs of your frontage so you approve something that looks like the finished result, and then fabricate it. Because the design studio and the workshop are the same company, a change at proof stage is a conversation rather than a change order.

Reading is a business park town and a retail town at once

Very few places in the Thames Valley carry both at this scale. There is the town centre retail around The Oracle and Broad Street Mall and the independent frontages on the streets between them, and then there is a large corporate estate at Green Park, Thames Valley Park and the offices along the A33 and the M4 junction 11 approach.

Those two audiences want different signage. Retail wants a fascia that reads from across the street and a window that can be changed four times a year. A corporate campus wants a totem at the entrance, consistent wayfinding across a site and reception signage that matches a brand manual. We make both, but they are not the same job and they should not be quoted as if they were.

For the town centre and the independents: shopfront signs, projecting signs and window graphics and displays.

For the business parks and offices: commercial signs, totems and monolith signs, and office signs including reception and wayfinding.

For multi site retailers with a Reading branch: retail store signage, where the whole batch is printed together so colour matches across every store.

For trades and contractors working the Reading area: vehicle graphics and fleet livery.

Getting to Reading from the workshop

We are in Bracknell, which puts Reading inside the routine working radius rather than at the edge of it. Surveys, installs and any return visit for a warranty swap are all short runs. That is the main practical reason to use a sign maker on this side of the Thames Valley rather than one in London.

Full workshop details and contact information are on our Bracknell page. For the wider county picture, see sign makers in Berkshire.

Frequently asked questions

Do you make bespoke signs for Reading businesses?

Yes, and it is most of what we do. Signage is drawn for your premises and your brand, laid over photographs of your frontage for approval, then manufactured in our own workshop rather than ordered in.

Will a shop sign in Reading need advertisement consent?

Most exterior shop front signage in England needs advertisement consent from the local planning authority, and illuminated signage almost always does. If your premises are listed or sit in a conservation area, extra conditions are likely. We will tell you what is likely to apply at survey stage.

Can you supply office and reception signage for a Reading business park?

Yes. Door plaques, reception signs, wayfinding, desk nameplates and meeting room signage are all made in house, and we can work to an existing brand manual so a multi floor or multi building site stays consistent.

Do you work outside Berkshire?

Yes. We are based in Bracknell but we design, manufacture and install nationwide, and we have delivered projects internationally.
