WHAT WE INSTALL

Signs and Graphics We Install

A sign that is drawn and built well can still be let down on the day by a poor fixing, a bubbled panel or a fitter who cannot get past the site office. Our fitters work from our workshop on Longshot Lane and install the signs made in our Bracknell sign workshop, across Berkshire and nationwide. For the county picture, see sign makers in Berkshire.

HOW IT WORKS

How a Sign Installation Runs

1

Survey and access

We start with a site survey, or with your photographs and measurements if you would rather not wait. We check the wall or glass, the fixings, any cabling for illuminated signs, and whether the fixing height needs a scaffold tower or a MEWP. On a managed site we agree access with the landlord, managing agent or centre management before the install date.

2

Paperwork before the fit

Our fitters hold CSCS, IPAF and PASMA accreditation, covering site competence, powered access and mobile access towers. Most landlords, managing agents and principal contractors ask to see those cards and a method statement before anyone works on a fascia or at height, and we supply them as part of the job.

3

Fitted around your hours

Retail installs are routinely done in the evening, overnight or on a Sunday so the shop floor is never blocked, and office work is scheduled around the working day. Multi-site rollouts are surveyed and fitted store by store, around trading hours and landlord access windows.

WHY SMART SIGNS

Why businesses use our fitters

The team that made it

The people who built the sign fit it, so nothing is lost between suppliers.

Every site the same

Store by store surveys and one batch of manufacture, so every location matches.

Sign Repairs, Maintenance and Replacement

We repair signs we installed and signs supplied by someone else. Failed LEDs, damaged panels, faded vinyl and storm damage are the usual reasons for a call. Where a tray or lightbox frame is still sound, refacing the panel is considerably cheaper than a full replacement, and we will tell you honestly at survey if the frame is not worth keeping.

Exterior signage benefits from an occasional clean, and illuminated units may eventually need LED replacement. When you buy a new sign from us, we will tell you the expected service life of the specification.

What Affects the Cost of Sign Installation

Access and height

Out of hours

Travel

Old sign removal

The sign itself is only part of an installation price. A ground floor fascia fitted from a scaffold tower is a different job from a first floor sign on a busy street that needs a MEWP or a road closure, and that access is costed separately. Out of hours fitting, travel time and mileage to the site, and removing an old sign each add time, and illuminated signs need cabling.

Send us photographs of the building, rough measurements and the height of the fixing, and we will come back with an itemised price that shows the sign, the install and the access separately.

QUESTIONS

Sign Installation FAQs

Do you install signs outside Berkshire?

Yes. We are based in Bracknell, but we install nationwide, and we have delivered projects internationally. Fitting is quoted for each job, because travel time and mileage to the site form part of it.

What accreditations do your fitters hold?

CSCS, IPAF and PASMA, covering site competence, powered access such as a MEWP or cherry picker, and mobile access towers. Most shopping centres, managing agents and principal contractors ask for these before anyone works on a fascia or at height.

Can you install outside trading hours?

Yes. Evening, overnight and Sunday installations are routine for retail work, and office installs can be booked for the evening or the weekend where a reception cannot be out of use.

Can you repair a sign you did not supply?

Yes. Failed LEDs, damaged panels, faded vinyl and storm damage are all things we can look at, including on signage we did not originally supply. Where the frame is sound we can reface the panel rather than replace the whole sign.

Will my sign need planning permission?

Most exterior signage in England needs advertisement consent from the local planning authority, and illuminated signs almost always do. We will tell you what is likely to apply at survey stage and can supply the drawings your application needs.

Do you remove old signage?

Yes. We remove and replace signs and graphics we did not originally supply, and we will tell you honestly at survey if a removal is going to be a bigger job than the new fit.
